The hotel's history
From the bowling alley to the city hotel
1974 – the Fireplace Room
The history of “Am Kamin” began in 1974 with the opening of six bowling alleys and the Kaminstube, a lounge seating 50, by Lotte and Artur Joanni, together with their daughter Ute and son Frank.
In 1978, the restaurant was expanded to include the Alpine-style dining room and the “Brunnenstüble” (now known as “Fonte”).
With the arrival of the next generation, Claudia and Frank Joanni, the first new hotel building with 36 comfortable rooms was completed in 1993.
In 1995, the third floor of the hotel building was converted into a conference centre with three seminar rooms and offices.
In 2002, the senior partners retired to enjoy their well-deserved retirement, handing over sole management of the business to the next generation, Claudia and Frank.
2007 - the Alm Restaurant
In 2007, the alm restaurant and mountain hut were officially opened. The whole family spent a year collecting authentic timber throughout the Allgäu region. Under the guidance of Artur, a pensioner who was 76 years old at the time, the mountain hut was integrated into the hotel with great attention to detail.
In 2009 and 2013, the second phase of the hotel’s construction was completed in two stages, adding a further 24 rooms. As a result, the ‘Kamin’ now boasts over 60 cosy, rustic-style hotel rooms equipped with every comfort. All hotel rooms feature a bathroom with shower and toilet, hypoallergenic beds and mattresses, a workspace, a large 50-inch flat-screen TV with an online media library, fast Wi-Fi and an additional kettle.
2014 - next generation
The next generation joined the business in 2014. Maximilian Joanni, a qualified chef (head chef and overall operations manager), and his wife Kathi, a qualified hotel manager (reception, service and overall operations manager), together with their youngest children Ben, Lea and Paul, are bringing youthful energy and fresh ideas to the family business:
2015: the lounge/sprizz bar.
2016: the redesign of the beer garden terrace.
2020: the newly designed country-style rooms in a modern Alpine style.
2021: the conversion of the former bowling alley into an indoor playground and an indoor garage for e-bikes.
2022/23: the beer garden extension with an outdoor playground.
2024: the redesign of the mountain hut interior, and in 2025 the new arbour in front of the mountain hut with a cosy atmosphere
… and it continues…!
